Young people excel on Adviza’s National Citizen Programme
26th Sep 2014
This summer, 97 young people from Oxfordshire have been taking part in the National Citizen Service Programme (NCS) run by Adviza and two other providers. The 15-17 year olds spent their summer holidays helping out their community and were honoured for their achievements in a graduation ceremony at Oxford Town Hall on 15th September.
The NCS programme is a four week programme that enables young people to develop new skills to support future education and employment opportunities, grow in confidence, meet new people and make a difference within their local community.
Those taking part this summer did a fantastic job and through a range of fundraising activities including car washes, cake sales, fun days, a 24 hour sleep out and quiz nights raised over £4,500 to support local charities. Other activities included volunteering at local residential centres throughout Oxfordshire, gardening, weeding and litter picking all of which have made a big impact on the community.
As well as benefitting their community the young people got a lot out of the programme. One young participant Lucy Joyce commented: “I had an amazing time; I learnt so much and really enjoyed the fundraising activities”.
