Social Enterprise Upcycling Project Against the Grain Secures £10,000 Funding
16th Jan 2017
Against the Grain, Adviza's social enterprise upcycling furniture in Reading, is delighted to announce it has been awarded a £10,000 grant from Berkshire Community Foundation (BCF). The much needed funding will be used to continue the current trainees’ 18-month training programme which includes tuition from experts and to pay for on-going costs for supplies such as tools, paint and materials. Over the last 30 years, BCF has given over £8 million worth of grants to more than 3,000 local projects.
“Funding has become much harder to come by for projects such as Against the Grain and this grant will have a huge benefit to the current trainees and our long-term plans”, says Katharine Horler, CEO of Adviza. Against the Grain will be moving into new premises in Acre Road in the New Year, shared with other local community groups, where the trainees will continue to develop their skills and their range of upcycled furniture.
Against the Grain depends on support from the local community in the form of donations of unwanted furniture suitable for upcycling, un-wanted paint or materials or if they have any suitable skills and can volunteer their time to train staff. We would welcome anyone interested to get in touch.
Against the Grain is a charity, set up by Adviza, to give young people a unique opportunity to enhance their employability, build confidence and contribute to a successful business.
