Options after year 8 or 9
If you're in year 8 or 9 you will soon be choosing your options. Below we've answered two of the most common questions our advisers get asked around this time.
Which science should I take?
Triple Science: You take GCSEs in biology, chemistry and physics which amounts to three separate grades. If you are equally strong in each subject and interested in a career in medicine or a related industry, it would be advisable to take all three particuarly if your teachers are suggesting you do so.
Double Award Science: You take biology, chemistry and physics which amounts to two GCSE grades. Double Award is sufficient if you want to do medicine or a related subject. If you enjoy science, are getting good grades and considering a career in medicine or science it would be advisable to take Double Award.
BTEC Science: If science isn't your strongest subject, you are stronger in other subjects and aren't considering a career in medicine or a related industry it could be worth looking at the BTEC science.
