Why Volunteer?

Summer is around the corner and what better time to consider volunteering? Volunteering alongside your studies can open doors to numerous benefits. Firstly, it's about giving back and feeling fulfilled; depending on what you do, it can teach you empathy and a sense of responsibility towards your community, shaping you as a person. However, it’s more than just giving your time, it's also a chance for personal growth, to expand your horizons, meet new people and build confidence.

Engaging in volunteer work can boost your transferable skills like communication, time management, and teamwork skills. It also allows you to learn specialised skills relevant to your interests, whether it's hands-on tasks or more complex roles. Plus, volunteering can give you insights into different career paths, helping you figure out what you want to pursue. Certain careers, like those in media, healthcare, or social services often require relevant experience as it not only shows your dedication but also gives you a deeper understanding of the field, making you a stronger candidate. This is especially important if you are intending to apply for apprenticeships as employers value employability skills as much as qualifications.
