8th Feb 2019

To celebrate this year's National Apprenticeship Week and National Careers Week, WOOP in association with Study Higher and The Careers & Enterprise Company, is inviting Berkshire employers to be part of a STEAM speed networking event in Reading on 14th March 2019.

The event, which will be held at Green Park Conference Centre from 9am – 3:30pm, is an opportunity for local businesses to inspire and educate the talent of tomorrow and highlight the opportunities available in STEAM. Empowering students to make informed decisions about their future has an overwhelming effect on their job prospects: research has shown that a young person who has four or more encounters with an employer is 86% less likely to be unemployed.

The event is part of the WOOP programme which is funded by the Education & Skills Funding Agency and European Social Fund and run by Adviza in partnership with Thames Valley Berkshire Local Enterprise Partnership.

Engage with local schools

Over 500 Year 10-13 students will be attending from local secondary schools. The speed networking sessions will involve students, in groups of three, having four minutes with each employer to ask a selection of questions about the world of work and routes into careers.

Barriers to youth employment survey

To help provide some background information for the day we have devised a short survey to better understand the recruitment challenges local businesses are facing. Employers are invited to complete the survey whether or not they are able to attend the event. The results of they survey will form part of the pack we give to students on the day.
