Could your point of view help us change lives?

We are seeking two new Trustees to join the team from the start of 2022, where your energy, fresh ideas and ability to constructively challenge us will help us develop and deliver our objectives.

Adviza is a charity dedicated to supporting young people and adults to successfully progress in their life, learning and work. We help people improve their lives through work and training, using a mixture of one-to-one support and group programmes. These include careers guidance for school students and our delivery of the National Careers Service to adults and young people in the South West and Oxfordshire. We also deliver a number of services and projects that help young people who are not in education, employment or training to grow their confidence and motivation, gain qualifications and improve their prospects.

The role of our Trustees

Our outstanding team of Trustees provides leadership for Adviza by sharing their ideas, bringing a different point of view and challenging us to continually improve. As a Board they make sure that we meet our legal and financial obligations.

Our Trustees include individuals with practical knowledge of working or volunteering in sectors including careers, local authority, healthcare, education, charity, innovation and the Armed Forces. Meet our current Trustees.

Key responsibilities

As a Trustee, your responsibilities will include:

  • Championing the views and interests of the charity regionally and locally
  • Supporting the Board to maintain and refresh the mission, vision and values of the charity
  • Making sure that the voice of the people who use Adviza’s services are heard and acted on at all levels of the organisation
  • Checking that our activities and finances meet the high standards required of us and ensuring appropriate reporting and accountability to commissioners and key stakeholders
  • Participating in at least one committee of the Board (we have four: Finance, Business Development, Personnel, Performance and Quality)
  • Providing fresh ideas that can inform the future of Adviza.

About you

We would love to hear from a wide range of people who have the passion, expertise and desire to help us transform lives. We would particularly like to hear from people who have one or more of the following:

  • An ability to reflect the communities we are trying to reach
  • Experience of working in the community or with disadvantaged groups
  • A great network that they can use to support the work of Adviza
  • Experience of influencing decision makers and funders
  • Senior experience in business or policy making
  • Relevant personal, voluntary or professional knowledge and experience.

We particularly encourage applications from young people, from people who have a BAME background, who live and work in the South West and who have had direct experience of using Adviza’s services.

There is no single ideal Adviza Trustee because there is no average Adviza customer. We work best when guided by broad and diverse viewpoints that bring a range of community insight, desire to transform the lives of disadvantaged young people and adults, creativity, ideas and fresh perspectives.

If you’ve never been a Trustee before, don’t worry, we offer lots of training and support and have a number of fellow Trustees who would be willing to mentor you to help you get up to speed.

How to apply
