Adviza is partnering with Fernando Productions, Discover Bucks Museum’s Bucks Heroes Project and Oasis Partnership to launch a four week film course for anyone in Aylesbury or Buckinghamshire who is over 50 years of age and out of work.

After a launch day on Monday September 5th the project will involve half-day practical workshops held every Tuesday for a month at Discover Bucks Museum in Aylesbury.

The aim of the project is to help unemployed people in the 50+ age range within the county to recognise and embed transferrable skills and feel inspired to look at alternative careers they may not have considered. It is part of Adviza’s Building Futures programme which aims to improve opportunities for young people and adults in Buckinghamshire.

Supported by local film company Fernando Productions, participants will learn the skills of film-making including how to use film equipment, create scripts and improve communication. The project will conclude with two days of filming where participants can decide their own topic and create a film. Meanwhile, an Adviza support worker will help participants to recognise their transferrable skills and identify local career opportunities.

This is a fully-funded, free programme and participants do not need experience of film production to join.

Adviza’s Allan Potter, Project Manager for the initiative, said,

Making a film is a fun project but it’s also the sort of thing a lot of people assume they can’t do. When they realise they can, it brings a lot of confidence and motivation. Participants will choose what their project looks like but we’re hoping some will highlight local people in Buckinghamshire in line with the “Bucks Heroes” project being run by Discover Bucks Museum.
