Adviza is an innovative, progressive charity that works with young people and adults to help them make the best of their lives.

As you would expect from a people charity, we look after our own: our commitment to employees has recently resulted in Adviza being awarded the Investors in People (IiP) Gold status. We offer a competitive benefits package, flexible working arrangements and a commitment to employee learning and development.

At Adviza we value and embrace equality, diversity and inclusion and the wellbeing of our staff. Creating a diverse workforce and inclusive culture which supports people to reach their full potential is an important priority for us. We fully support equal opportunities in employment and are a positive about disabilities employer.

Our culture

We sometimes refer to ourselves as an organisation that is “small but perfectly formed” - but we are reflective enough to understand that in reality we are not completely “perfectly formed” – at least, not yet!

Joining handsWe are, and have always been, committed to equality, diversity and inclusion, but we recognise that being committed sometimes isn’t quite enough to broaden our appeal and ensure that we are a truly and actively diverse and inclusive place to work.

That means we know that it’s not just what we say that matters - but also that what we do. We want to listen to all voices, take action where we need to and proactively include everyone to enable a sense of belonging, We have recently commissioned an honest and open review of our organisational health in terms of equality, diversity and inclusion, and we have some very positive recommendations to take forward to build on. Our report recognised that the team members in Adviza are “incredibly caring and focused on getting things right for their clients” and we know that this can be readily extended to colleagues.

Our benefits

Salary and pay progression

We know that money isn’t everything, but our salary scales are competitive and regularly benchmarked within our sector. Additionally, as a not-for-profit organisation, we try to invest part of any surplus we generate towards our employees. This can be applied in a number of ways such as an annual Cost of Living increase, or, for a smaller surplus, a bonus gift voucher at the end of the year, for example.

Progression through our salary scales is a proactive process that is dictated initially by you. Twice each year we take applications from individuals for pay point increases based on their personal contribution to the organisation. So, when you and your manager think you are ready, and have the evidence to put forward, you can submit an application for consideration.

Your personal development

Person on laptop doing online trainingOur vision is for all young people and adults to make better decisions that help them to progress in learning and work, and achieve their full potential. That vision also applies to our colleagues, so we actively encourage continuing professional development for every individual that works for us. We do this in a variety of ways, from funding to achieve qualifications through to allocated time in everyone’s caseload/working hours dedicated to training and development.

Pensions

Helping others prepare for the future is our core business and that applies to our colleagues too. Our pension scheme, provided through Legal & General, is an industry-leading product – and as your employer, we go above the minimum requirements by matching your own level of contribution up to 10% of your salary.

Holidays

Person walking on the beachWe recognise that time away from work is an essential part of maintaining a healthy work/life balance. As well as ensuring you have your statutory bank holidays we offer 28 days holiday per year (for those who work full time) at the start of your career with us. This rises to 30 days once you have been with us for 2 years. Rest assured that time simply flies by!

Work/life balance – our genuine commitment to flexible working

We have always been an exceptionally flexible employer and support colleagues who wish to work part time or term time for some roles, or compressed fortnightly working patterns for others. Currently 51% of our workforce works part time or term time and over 90% work outside of the 9-5 tradition - so long as you can get the job done we have no preconceived ideas about the “right way” to organise your time.

The COVID-19 pandemic brought our flexible approach to the forefront with a bang! Practically overnight we moved to a home-based workforce and, whilst that naturally limited our “business as usual” delivery, we have learned valuable lessons from the experience and do not intend to lose the incredible benefits that come with remote working. We welcome and support hybrid working where we can. Don’t need to go to the office every day or every week? That’s fine, so long as we all stay in touch – and get the job done!
