    People that work in marketing and advertising all have something to do with selling. Some of the jobs are about finding out what people want to buy; some are making sure that customers know about the products or services the organisation sells; and some are doing the selling itself!

    For all these sorts of jobs, you need to be able to get on well with people and to have good communication and organisational skills.

    Many young people have been inspired by TV shows, movies etc. to follow a particular career. We have collated some resources here for you to discover. We have included podcasts because they are the best way to get real insight into the industry’s current dynamics and are a great way to demonstrate knowledge and passion in personal statements and interviews.

    Please note, we have not specified the platforms for these resources as they can change over time. We suggest you do a web search for the title – you will often find them on YouTube in their entirety. Some titles will only be available for a fee or subscription.

    Please be aware that not all of the titles below are appropriate for all ages. Please check the age appropriateness before watching. Common sense media are a good resource to use to do this.

    Institute of Sales Professionals (ISP)

    Public Relations

    CIPR (Chartered Institute of Public Relations) - the professional body for PR practitioners. For information on CIPR qualifications and recognised training providers, click on 'Learn and develop' and then 'Qualifications'.

    PRCA  Represents many PR agencies, in-house communications teams etc. Website has a directory of members and details on Apprenticeships, internships and training courses.

    National Outdoor Events Association (NOEA)

    Association of Event Organisers (AEO) The trade body representing companies involved in trade and consumer events. 

    The Event Academy - runs London-based and online events management courses (accredited by CIM).

    Event Supplier and Services Association (ESSA) - a sister organisation of AEO.

    Association of Event Venues (AEV) - AEV is also a sister organisation of AEO.

    The UK Alliance of Wedding Planners (UKAWP) - a membership organisation. Offers online, one-to-one and group training for both new and established independent wedding planners.
